Excessive water pressure consequences ozone cleaner: leakage, damage and risks explained
Excessive water pressure at the ozone cleaner connection is not an abstract risk. We have seen the consequences in practice: leakage at the water connection, damp patches around the device and in isolated cases damage to internal components. Those cases were the trigger for the official advice to shut off the water supply after use. This article describes exactly what happens when water pressure exceeds the maximum specification of three bar, which parts are most vulnerable and how to recognise the consequences. The ozone cleaner works with an internal water circuit. Water flows via an inlet through the system, comes into contact with ozone gas and leaves the device via the outlet to the application point. That circuit contains hoses, couplings, valves and an ozone contact element. All those parts are dimensioned for a maximum working pressure of three bar. At pressure above that limit, the mechanical load on the connections increases. Hose couplings and connection points are the first places where higher pressure shows its effect. The connection between the water supply hose and the device is most vulnerable to peak pressure. Under sustained excessive pressure, the connection can slowly come loose or develop a small leak that is not immediately visible. A continuous minor leak can over time lead to damp surroundings around the device, limescale deposits at the connection point or in more serious cases water damage at the location. A particular risk arises when the device is not in use but remains connected to the mains water supply. In that situation the internal circuit is continuously under the full mains water pressure. There is no flow to distribute or relieve the pressure load. The pressure acts statically on all connections simultaneously. This is precisely the situation where leakage is most likely to occur, and also the situation that directly motivates the advice to shut off after use. In addition to leakage at connections, structurally excessive pressure can also stress internal valves. Valves dimensioned for three bar may seal less well at higher pressure or wear out sooner. That increases the chance of leakage at the valve itself or of slow pressure build-up in parts of the circuit not designed for that pressure. The consequences are not always immediately visible. A small leak at a hose connection can go unnoticed for weeks if the device is in an enclosed space or if the amount of water released is too small to be immediately apparent. Periodic inspection of the connection points is therefore worthwhile for users at locations where water pressure may be higher than the specification. Explanation of the consequences of excessive water pressure on the ozone cleaner: which parts are vulnerable, how leakage develops and how to recognise damage.
Consequences of excessive water pressure on the ozone cleaner
Most vulnerable parts
The hose coupling between water supply and device is the most vulnerable point. Context: water supply ozone cleaner pressure update.
Why static water is the greatest risk
Static pressure has no outlet and acts continuously on all connections. Shutting off after use is the most direct measure: shut off water supply after use.
How to recognise leakage
Damp patches, limescale at connection points or increased water consumption. Measure the pressure: measuring water pressure home or commercial.
Prevention
Shut off after use and for structurally excessive pressure install a pressure reducer: pressure reducer ozone cleaner solution. More on the specification: maximum water pressure ozone cleaner. Questions? the contact page.
The ozone cleaner in use
The ozone water machine works unchanged at pressure within specification. More: ozone water knowledge guide.
