Maintenance and consumption costs of ozone water explained
Ozone water allows you to reduce traditional cleaning products for surface cleaning, but the machine itself also needs care. This article helps you map maintenance and consumption costs so your budget stays predictable. Our ozone water from the ozone water machine is intended only for surface cleaning. Not intended for consumption or medical applications.
Which parts need maintenance?
An ozone water machine typically consists of a cell, electrodes, pump and filters. The housing and electronics usually last long; wear mainly affects moving parts, seals and contact points in the cell. Thanks to on-demand production you no longer need chemical stock, but the unit does benefit from periodic inspection.
Service interval and lifetime
In practice it is often sufficient to have the system inspected after around 1,000 operating hours or roughly 500,000 litres of water. This includes a visual check, flow check, rinsing where needed and assessment of the electrodes. Spare parts typically cost around €75 depending on type and intensity of use. Record the last service date together with meter readings to keep oversight.
Consumption costs per litre
Ozone water is cost-saving because it uses tap water and relatively little energy to generate ozone. On average you arrive at about €0.0017 per litre of cleaning water. Compare this with the full cost of traditional products: purchasing, transport, storage and plastic packaging. See what ozone water is and our guides for real-life examples in larger facilities.
Workflow and two-cloth method
Spray onto the cloth for controlled application or directly onto closed surfaces such as tables, floors or tiles. Workflow: two-cloth method — 1) Mist a light layer onto the surface. 2) Clean in overlapping strokes with cloth A. 3) Immediately dry with cloth B for a streak-free result. Work from cleaner to less clean areas: touch points, then furniture and finally wet zones.
Read the full instructions in the two-cloth method guide.
Costs and affordability
You can produce cleaning water for only about €0.0017 per litre directly from the tap.
- ✅ No expensive bottles or logistics
- ✅ Less plastic and storage space
- ✅ Chemical-free surface cleaning
- ✅ Simple, repeatable workflow
- After around 1,000 hours or 500,000 litres some maintenance is needed, on average about €75 in parts.
Budgeting per year
Combine the estimated litres per year with cost per litre, expected maintenance and replacements. This gives a clear picture of total yearly costs. Also include savings on products, transport and storage. In many cases an ozone water solution proves both more practical and financially attractive.
