Ozone water as an affordable cleaning solution for daily use
Affordable cleaning solution with ozone water
Many organisations look for an affordable cleaning solution that is also easy to use. With an ozone water machine you produce your own cleaning water from ordinary tap water. The result is ozone water, water in which ozone is temporarily dissolved. You use it only for surface cleaning of closed surfaces such as tables, floors and tiles, and not for drinking or medical applications.
This guide as part of a blog series
This article is the central guide in a blog series about smart and cost-efficient cleaning with ozone water. The other articles in this series dive deeper into daily workflows, cost and budget, staff training and sector-specific use cases, so you can build a consistent cleaning approach around one central solution.
Why ozone water is an affordable cleaning solution
An ozone water machine converts oxygen into ozone and mixes it with water. Via a tap or hose you fill a spray bottle or bucket. You use the ozone water immediately after production, because its effect decreases over time. This means you no longer need separate detergents for each area and can work from one central source of cleaning water.
✔️ Very low cost per litre, because you mainly use tap water and a small amount of energy.
✔️ Fewer different products to purchase, store and explain to staff.
✔️ Less plastic packaging and more organised storage areas.

Workflow with the two-cloth method
Spray the ozone water preferably onto the cloth for controlled application, or directly onto closed surfaces such as tables, floors or tiles. The basic workflow is simple: mist a light layer onto the surface, clean in overlapping passes with cloth A and immediately dry with cloth B for a streak-free result. Work from cleaner to less clean areas, for example touchpoints and furniture first and wet rooms afterwards.
You can review the steps in the dedicated two-cloth method article, so new staff can easily follow the same routine.
Cost and affordability
The cost per litre is very low. At roughly €0.0017 per litre, less than a fifth of a cent, you produce cleaning water straight from the tap. A full bucket costs about one cent. The main investment is the ozone water machine itself and periodic maintenance.
- No expensive bottles or complex logistics.
- Less plastic waste and less storage space required.
- Chemical-free cleaning using only water and temporarily dissolved ozone.
- Easy to explain and repeat for both new and existing staff.
- After around 1000 operating hours or roughly 500,000 litres, plan for about €75 in replacement parts.
Use ozone water only for surface cleaning of closed surfaces. It is not intended for consumption or medical applications.
