Healthcare facilities and ozone water: use, workflow and safety
Using ozone water in healthcare
Ozone water is produced on site and, when used correctly, supports surface cleaning of closed, hard surfaces in healthcare environments. This page makes no medical or disinfection claims and stays fully within the BPR framework.
Why it is practical
It is made on demand, reverts to normal water after use and reduces bottle logistics. Learn more in What is ozone water? and see the Ozone water machine.
Recommended workflow (two-cloth method)
Prefer spraying on the cloth for controlled use, or lightly mist on closed surfaces (tables, tiles, rails). Wipe in overlapping passes and dry with cloth B for a streak-free finish. See Two-cloth method.
- Work from clean to less clean; treat touchpoints as micro-zones.
- Use fresh solution; activity decreases within minutes.
- Ensure adequate ventilation and follow device instructions.
Costs and affordability
Ozone water is economical in daily cleaning and helps reduce plastics and storage.
- ✅ No expensive bottles or logistics
- ✅ Less plastic and storage
- ✅ Chemical-free cleaning
- ✅ Simple workflow
- After ~1000 hours or 500,000 litres, plan preventive electrode check (~€75 parts).
Implementation in your organisation
Run a pilot on one ward, document surfaces per room and train staff on the standard workflow. Iterate based on feedback.
