How to clean with ozone water: step-by-step for teams

This guide gives you a clear step-by-step workflow for cleaning with ozone water, from generating the water to applying the two-cloth method on site.

Step-by-step workflow for cleaning with ozone water using the two-cloth method

How do you clean with ozone water? Follow this practical workflow for buckets, spray bottles and the two-cloth method in offices, hospitality, care and sports.

How to clean with ozone water in daily practice

How do you clean with ozone water?

Cleaning with ozone water becomes truly effective when everyone follows the same routine. With one basic cleaning water and a standard two-cloth method, training is shorter and quality more consistent.

Step 1: preparation and planning

Start with a short preparation:

  • List the surfaces at your site that will be cleaned with ozone water.
  • Define which rooms belong to one round (for example offices, corridors and toilets separately).
  • Prepare buckets, spray bottles, cloths and gloves.

For the basics, see the hub What is ozone water and the guide Where to use ozone water.

Step 2: generating ozone water

Generate ozone water on demand with an ozone water machine or device. In general:

  • Switch on the machine according to the manual.
  • Allow it to produce enough ozone water for your next round.
  • Fill buckets for floors and surfaces, and smaller spray bottles for touchpoints.

For a detailed explanation of the technology see How an ozone water device works.

Step 3: preparing buckets and spray bottles

Distribute the ozone water:

  • Use buckets for larger surfaces such as tables, desks and floors.
  • Use spray bottles for door handles, light switches, handrails and other touchpoints.
  • Label buckets and bottles so staff can recognise ozone water at a glance.

Because ozone water is only active for a limited time (around 15 to 30 minutes), you fill what you need for the current round and produce fresh water later.

Step 4: planning the cleaning route

Design a logical route:

  • Work from cleaner to less clean areas (for example offices first, then corridors, then sanitary areas).
  • Move consistently from top to bottom floors or the other way round.
  • Document the route in a brief work instruction so everyone follows the same order.

The guide How much does ozone water cost shows how these rounds translate into cost per bucket and per year.

Step 5: applying the two-cloth method

The two-cloth method is at the heart of cleaning with ozone water:

  • Cloth A: cleaning – dampen cloth A with ozone water or spray directly onto the surface.
  • Cloth B: drying – dry immediately with cloth B so no streaks or drops remain.
  • Work in calm, overlapping lanes and replace cloths when visibly soiled.

You will find the full method in the guide Two-cloth method.

Step 6: per room, same procedure every time

Create mini-checklists per room type, for example:

  • Office: desks, office chairs, door handles, light switches, cabinets.
  • Hospitality: tables, chairs, bar tops, menu holders, touchpoints around tills and coffee machines.
  • Care: bed rails, bedside tables, wheelchairs (closed parts), door handles.
  • Sport: benches, lockers, tiles, showers, touchpoints at doors.

More detailed examples per environment are part of the Ozone water versatility series.

Step 7: closing the round

End the round consciously:

  • Check whether all planned rooms and surfaces have been covered.
  • Empty buckets you will no longer use and rinse them.
  • Launder cloths according to the washing protocol and store equipment neatly.

If you are unsure whether a surface is suitable for ozone water, check the guide Is ozone water safe or consult your safety officer.

How do I apply the two-cloth method with ozone water?

Dampen cloth A with ozone water or spray onto the surface, clean in lanes and dry immediately with cloth B so no streaks or drops remain.

How often should I change cloths while cleaning?

Change cloths as soon as they are visibly soiled or saturated, following your laundry protocol; better a little too often than too late.

Can I use ozone water in both buckets and spray bottles?

Group areas logically, work from cleaner to less clean zones and document the route in a short work instruction so everyone uses the same order.

What is important after the cleaning round?

Check that all areas have been covered, empty and rinse buckets, launder cloths and store equipment neatly so the next round can start smoothly.
