Buying ozone water or producing it on-site? Smart choices
Thinking about ‘buying ozone water’ for your organisation? In reality, ready-made ozone water as a stock product does not make much sense, because its activity drops quickly after production. In this guide you learn why ozone water is strongest when produced on-demand, what that means for safety and surface cleaning, and when an on-site ozone water system becomes more cost-effective than traditional chemicals.

Considering buying ozone water, or is an on-site ozone water system a better fit? Discover why ready-made ozone water is not practical, how the 15–30 minute half-life works and how on-demand production can reduce costs and chemicals in your cleaning process.
Buying ozone water or producing it on-site?
Buying ozone water or producing it on-site?
At first sight, the idea of ‘buying ozone water’ seems simple: you order a product, it is delivered and you start cleaning. In reality, ready-made ozone water as a stock item is not very practical. Ozone water has a half-life of about 15–30 minutes, which means that its activity declines quickly after it is produced.
Our ozone water from the ozone water machine is only intended for surface cleaning. It is not intended for consumption or medical applications. To benefit from its full effect, you want to use ozone water as fresh as possible, preferably produced on-demand at the location where you clean.
What people really mean by ‘buying ozone water’
When people talk about buying ozone water, they usually mean one of two things:
- investing in an ozone water system that produces ozone water on-site; or
- working with a cleaning partner that uses ozone water at your facilities.
In both cases, you are not buying a liquid with a long shelf life, but rather access to freshly produced ozone water and a way of working that fits your daily cleaning routine.
Why ready-made ozone water is not practical
Ozone is an unstable form of oxygen. In water, ozone gradually falls back to normal oxygen, which reduces the active effect. Because this happens relatively quickly, transporting ozone water over long distances or storing it for weeks does not add much value. By the time it is used, the activity will largely have disappeared.
That is why professional users prefer on-site generation. You turn normal tap water into ozone water at the moment you need it, with a controlled dose and within safe limits for surface cleaning.
Producing ozone water with a dedicated system
A modern ozone water system allows your staff to produce ozone water with the push of a button. The machine treats tap water so that you get a consistent quality of cleaning water without handling concentrated chemicals or storing drums in a separate room.
- no heavy canisters or bottles to move around;
- no separate storage for hazardous cleaning products;
- a predictable way of working that is easy to train.

Why organisations choose ozone water
✔️ Less chemistry: you reduce the use of traditional cleaning products and work with water that falls back to oxygen after use.
✔️ Less logistics: fewer pallets with bottles and fewer transport movements.
✔️ Using ozone water is cost saving: you lower your cost per litre of cleaning water and reduce spend on storage, handling and packaging waste.
Workflow: the two-cloth method
In daily practice, ozone water is used most efficiently with the two-cloth method. One cloth is used to apply and loosen the soil, the second cloth is used to remove moisture and dirt.
- Cloth 1: dampen the cloth with fresh ozone water and gently wipe the surface so that soils are loosened.
- Cloth 2: use a dry or slightly damp cloth to pick up remaining moisture and residues.
This method delivers consistent results and fits well with existing routines. You can read a more detailed step-by-step description in our guide: two-cloth method.
Costs and affordability
When you compare costs, it is important to look beyond the price per bottle. An on-site ozone water system changes the way you organise cleaning: fewer deliveries, less storage and a more efficient workflow.
- Lower recurring spend on conventional products.
- Less storage and internal transport of chemicals.
- Simpler training and a clear procedure for staff.

Customer stories & testimonials
- “We initially looked for a supplier of ozone water, but ended up choosing an on-site system. It fits our internal logistics better and our staff adapted quickly.” (Facility manager, healthcare)
- “Fresh ozone water from our own system has reduced the number of products on our cleaning trolley. That alone made the switch worthwhile.” (Cleaning coordinator, office complex)
